lilacs, open fields, valleys and skies windy roads through towering rocks with distant grandiose mountain tops full of white. purples greens reds and pinks balanced in harmony as people settle within. Making marks that vary the land, give it life, and grows a story that is always changing, but part of a rooted theme. These people and lands dont beg for growth but rather find themselves in equilibrium and strive to maintain this feeling. People pass through and rather than change to appeal to them, the settlers stay as they are and want to be and through this a natural attraction carries travelers in. the smell of juniper sprinkled highway 92 hinting that our destination was near; this made me happy. And brought back memories of how this all began with zion national parks and the valleys and canyons of Utah.
Well We made our way And we found our way to not a city Not a town Not even a neighborhood complex But to crawford A bundle of houses perched around a reservoir A gateway and settlement for the black canyon of the gunnison Its here where we found lodging - an old time experience of hoping looking and finding trust in someone to welcome us to their home. No hotels motels or lodges like we imagine today. We traveled up a hill to a shack of a lodge, confused but knowing we didnt have much of a choice - choosing really to flow with this experience however it goes and we were greeted by Wess. A simpleton man from kansas city kansas. Wess welcomed us No check in No upfront payment n No keys to our room But instead - a view. He greeted us with a view.
Bye last frontier lodge. Thank you wess.
About Black Gunnison National Park:
Black Gunnisson although shockingly, strikingly, grounded and taking the sole dominant presence in this field of land around us, didn’t connect with me the same way I felt about zion bryce or even yellowstone. I don’t know, maybe its just that i’ve already found my soulmate in this natural world at zion. Ive never felt so beautifully easily and spiritually connected with the earth - i hope i never forget that feeling. I’m trying not to be searching for it and letting it come to me in all these other places. I do hope I can find a way down there in that canyon someday where the little birds dart like jets with crescent shaped wings and birds with wings as long as my arms soar from high above ( well below us looking in) its like we are observing another world from a distance. It felt like I could never fulfill that curiosity of wanting to peak far enough over the edge to see its core. Maybe that just confirms I have to go down there one day.
